Welp, it’s coming. A big change is coming soon. This little free wordpress blog has served me well, but it is time to move on to bigger and better things! I’m not quite ready to launch the new blog yet, but very soon! And you’re gonna love it. Because I love it. And because the first post (or almost first…I gotta do a welcome post first I think!) is going to be…drum roll please…a beautiful couple IN LOVE!! YESSSSS….
I’m SO excited, so here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming! To the new blog! This is too much fun….
Bay Creek is a resort area on the Eastern Shore in Virginia. Let me tell you, there isn’t much to do there. Despite the lack of activities available though, we have gone twice and have loved both times. We get to get away from media and entertainment and just…be. Be together. Be at peace. Be a family. And it’s great. The first night, we just sat on the screened-in porch, and talked and laughed til it was dark. The next day, we took a bike ride around town. These are memories I’ll always cherish.
The town of Cape Charles itself has TONS of history, and there used to be thousands of people there in the 40s because of its location and the train station. Now, it’s a quiet town with essentially one restaurant, a marina and not a lot of shopping. It’s very laid back, slow paced, and generally quiet. We stayed in one of the colorful beach-themed houses right next to the water and I highly recommend it if you want to get away and do nothing. Or play golf. They have two EXCELLENT golf courses there: the Arnold Palmer Signature Course and the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. We just got back from this trip, so I thought it’d be nice to do another Travel Tuesday, realizing that I haven’t done one since July…whoops..
When I was scanning through these pictures to edit, I actually found myself smiling and yes, even giggling (I mean, seriously, look at his cute face!!). This family is awesome and Langley is ADORABLE. He recently turned one, and I think I just decided that I love that age! We met at Great Falls on a perfect afternoon when the weather was absolutely amazing – clear blue sky, divine setting sun, wonderful temperature. The kind of day that makes you happy to be alive and to be living life instead of sitting behind a computer somewhere! (Clearly, I could never have a desk job) Anyways, the time flew by like crazy and honestly, I probably could have kept on shooting them until the sun went down! They were so sweet and fun and made my job such a pleasure!

*WARNING* THIS IS VERY LONG…
This post has been a long time in the making. I’ve been thinking about this for a while and to be truthful, it began with my Spring Break mission trip to Newark, NJ back in February, and this itself has been sitting in my drafts folder for weeks. Though I don’t have the words to do my thoughts and feelings justice, and I probably don’t have a completely developed story, I feel like I have something to say. I’m not even sure yet what my point is, but I’m sure something will come out as I write. So I’ll try.
When I came home from Newark, I was in love with inner city work. I was in love with God and the kids that had been suddenly brought into my life. I loved seeing God work, and I loved the beauty of the community in the midst of dirt and despair. I loved the church that we worked with and the people there; I loved encountering things, even hard and challenging things. I was brought into a community and it changed me. I considered going back for a summer internship, or somehow working there long term. I was seriously determined. But God works in mysterious ways and this summer wasn’t spent with the hurting and broken people of the projects. No, instead I was brought to a country club to work with kids golf camp just outside the nation’s capital. Contrast? Oh yeah.
After Newark, I WANTED to be in the projects. I WANTED to be with the hurting and helpless, the dirty and the sad. How can you explain that? How can you reason or make sense the fact that I was drawn to that? The only thing that I can think is that God was working in my heart to show me something – the miracle of hope, of redemption, of healing. Because, the truth is we’re all broken and hurting, right? To some extent, we’ve all been wounded or let down. If we really think about it, we feel like there’s got to be more to life than this – more than the work day in and day out just to make a living, just surviving and trying to make it to the weekend to merely cope with life. And there is more – there can be peace and hope and joy and fulfillment in ALL circumstances.
In Philippians, Paul writes and says, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” (Philippians 4:12 NIV). He explains that this is made possible only by the strength of God, and I’ve seen this myself.
Though I can’t honestly say that I’ve ever been in desperate need, this year has brought me to people who were in need, and people who had plenty. In Newark, I saw kids who wore the same shirt every day, still with food on it from days before. Kids who we knew were afraid to go home, or went home to abusive or neglecting parents. Kids who just needed some semblance of affection or anything good because there seems to be literally nothing good there. This summer, I was with kids who had clean clothes, new hats, golf clubs and bags of their very own – all they wanted at their fingertips. I have seen people in need and I have seen people have plenty. And you know what? They are strikingly similar. Their physical needs are different, yes. Lifestyle, polar opposites. But their hearts? Pretty much like all human hearts. Desiring peace. Hoping, wanting something deep and fulfilling in life.
So let me end on a few notes, a few observations of what I believe and what I’ve learned. Everyone goes through pain – in Newark, it was evident. Seen. Shared. Here, pain is private. Hidden. Secret. I believe that my God is a God for ALL people; that His truth satisfies and heals the most broken of souls. That regardless of wealth or race, He is not only available for everyone, but that He desires to be known, to be sought after. Also, that everyone needs the message of the gospel; that life, despite having money or not having money, gets tough. That everyone faces trials and heartache and makes mistakes. Everyone seems to be searching for something: the next high, the newest fad, a better position in the office, someone to blame or a way out, or something just to make them feel alive and fulfilled-things that never satisfy the deepest longings of the heart. I have learned that God’s plan is often (thankfully) different from our own and that God works anywhere and everywhere, drawing people unto Himself; that He is a great orchestrator and master planner. My prayer, if you’ve read this far, is that you know the God that I know. That your heart is filled to the brim not with the temporary and fleeting things we love to chase, but filled with the love and peace of knowing your Maker who not only exists, but loves you with a perfect and unfailing love.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

I loved this shoot! I really love it when clients get exited about the pictures and have ideas and want to see some creativity! It makes the process so much more fun! And also, I really love this family – you can tell they are so crazy about their little girl and little Kylie is such a happy baby! After my session with Jaxon, I got to hang out with some more of his family and take pictures with his cousins and grandparents. They were so fun and so sweet and made my job easy. So I know the next two are basically the same picture, but I love how it shows how happy Rachel is! 
Look at this cute little boy! Kids just have a way of bringing such joy to life! And oh my goodness – he was so adorable, and so loved by his family. I had the pleasure of hanging out with Jaxon and his family one morning and it was a blast getting to know them and watching the awesome relationship between them all. Jaxon just recently turned 1 and he did so well in front of the camera – such a natural!
